"Navigating the New Find-A-Grave”

presented by Susan STROPE, from TCGS, who was fascinated by cemeteries from an early age. Ten years ago, she discovered her elusive 3x great grandfather's grave site on Find-A-Grave, and it's been one of her favorite sources ever since. For Susan, it's a tried and true site that makes genealogical searches much easier. However, the format changes implemented when Ancestry acquired Find-A-Grave frustrate many users who were familiar and satisfied with the old site. Susan's goal is to make participants comfortable with the latest changes, find the information they seek, and use the site effectively to research and memorialize their ancestors. Join us and find out how to make the most of the new format. 10 a.m. – 12 noon

"Best Case Scenarios for  Copying and Preserving Your Family Photos,”

presented by CGS President Linda TRUDEAU. If you're fortunate enough to a box (or many boxes) of old family photos, and haven't figured out how to protect, preserve and share them with others, you won't want to miss this meeting! Linda will show us how to use a cell phone or scanner to digitize original photo-graphs. She'll demonstrate easy ways to copy, tweak, edit and enhance your digital photos, without being a Photoshop expert. She'll review options to print your digital images yourself, or take advantage of resources online or close to home to get them printed professionally. She'll discuss free aps and programs for working with and sharing digital images, methods and media for preserving and storing both digital photos and the original pictures. Not sure whether a tiny picture in an elaborate frame is a daguerotype or an ambrotype, or who the supposed ancestor might be, because you're unsure in what era it was taken? Linda will share some proven techniques for approximating the date of early hotographs based on facial hair and hair styles, and dating a family photo based on the age of the youngest person shown. 10 a.m.-12 noon
